Greetings are an important part of a conversation in Poland, they are not just a simple ritual with no specific answer. The greeting questions are used to ask for information. Very often, the answers are negative. There is an implied expectation to listen about a person’s mood, worries, problems and then sympathize and offer help, if possible.
QUESTIONS USED IN GREETING

Jak się pan / pani ma? How are you mr / ms?
Co u pana / pani słychać? How are you mr / ms? (lit. how does everything sound?)
