Lesson 10
In this lesson we are going to continue building on previously learned material.
I don't know | Nie wiem |
Maybe | Może |
Very | Bardzo |
Apply it to Sentence Structure
So far you have learned many ways to answer the question: "co to jest?". However, what if your not sure of the answer, but instead would like to give your thought or your best guess.
The best way to say “I don’t know” is to answer nie wiem (I don’t know).
Co to jest?
Nie wiem, może długopis może ołówek.
What is it?
I don’t know, maybe a pen, maybe a pencil.
Co to jest?
Nie wiem, może biurko, może krzesło.
What is it?
I don’t know, maybe a desk or maybe a chair.
You can also give your opinion by saying może (maybe). While in English you would need to answer "maybe it’s a…", in Polish a simple może will do.
Co to jest?
Nie wiem, może mała lampa.
What is it?
I don’t know, maybe it's a small lamp.
The word bardzo, (very) can be used when you want to emphasize something.
Co to jest?
To jest bardzo duża książka.
What is it?
It is a very large book.
Practice It!
Here are some additional examples. Use your Polish skills to translate the following sentences:
1. What is it? I don’t know. Maybe it’s a very large lamp or a very small pen.
2. What is that? That is a black computer.
3. What is that? That is a very large white and blue book.
