Apply It To Sentence Structure

Adjectives in their basic forms can be found in an English -Polish dictionary in their masculine gender. However, please remember that when describing a feminine or neuter noun, you will need to adjust the adjective by changing its ending.  For a review of adjective endings, see Lesson 3 and Lesson 4.

Below are some examples of the above adjectives applied in sentence format.

To jest moja koleżanka. Ona ma na imię Zosia. Ona jest ładna i miła.

This is my friend. Her name is Zosia. She is pretty and nice.

To jest mój brat. On ma na imię Maciek. On jest przystojny ale leniwy.

This is my brother. His name is Maciek. He is handsome but lazy.

To jest moja siostra Ania. Ona ma 15 lat. Ona jest bardzo pracowita.

This is my sister Ania. She is 15 years old. She is very hardworking.

To jest mój kolega. On ma na imię Jan. On ma 23 lata. On jest grzeczny.

This is my friend. His name is Jan. He is 23 years old. He is well behaved.

Contrasting Adjectives

You can contrast some adjectives by adding the prefix nie. This is just like adding the prefix "un-" or the word "not" in English.

Examples from the above list:

grzeczny - niegrzeczny

well behaved - not well behaved

sympatyczny - niesympatyczny

          nice - not nice
