Memorize new vocabulary
Today we will learn two new conversational verbs which will aid in your Polish conversations.
Pracować | To Work |
Ja pracuję | I work |
Ty pracujesz | You work |
On Ona pracuje Ono | He She works It |
My pracujemy | We work |
Wy pracujecie | You all work |
Oni One pracują | They (m) They (f) work |
| |
Studiować | To study |
Ja studiuję | I study |
Ty studiujesz | You study |
On Ona studiuje Ono | He She studies It |
My studiujemy | We study |
Wy studiujecie | You all study |
Oni One studiują | They (m) They (f) study |

Apply it to Sentence Structure
While having a conversation with a native Polish speaker, at one point or another you will be asked about your occupation. You already know how to say “I am a student” but what if you need to answer “I study” or “I work”. You can simply conjugate the above verb to fit your response:
For example:
On pracuje w Krakowie.
He works in Kraków.
Ja studiuję w Warszawie
I study in Warszawa.
As you may have noticed, the conjugated endings in these verbs are bolded. The endings: -ę, -esz, -e, -emy, -ecie, -ą, will qualify under Conjugation II category.
Singular | Plural |
-ę | -emy |
-esz | -ecie |
-e | -ą |
In this conjugation, some verbs will have some changes in their stems. As you can see above, the stem for the verb pracować would be pracow- and the stem for the verb studiować would be studiow-. While conjugating these verbs you will need to adjust the pracow- into pracuj- and studiow- into studiuj-. As it may seem complicated at first, it will become more natural to do so with some practice.
Make sure to bookmark this lesson in your language study as we will be adding more verbs to this category soon enough. To review Conjugation I of verbs go back to Lesson 25.
