The verb nazywać się belongs to Conjugation I. For a reminder of this conjugation go to Lesson 25.
When to use this verb?
The verb nazywać się is used as a means to introduce oneself to others. So far you have learned the phrase mam na imię… which would translate "I have for the name...". However, this phrase would introduce only your first name. In order to introduce yourself fully with your first and last name you can use the verb nazywam się.
Examples:
Mam na imię Jan.
My name is Jan.
BUT
Nazywam się Jan Kowalski.
I am named Jan Kowalski.
Just a note:
Sometimes someone may ask you if you knew what your name would be in Polish. If your name exists in Polish it is good to know what it is. Polish culture likes it. If you know your name in Polish you can always say:
Jak to jest po polsku?
How is it in Polish?
John to po polsku Jan.
Kate to po polsku Kasia.
Ursula to po polsku Urszula.

Practice it!
