Ok, if you’re still trying to comprehend the pervious lessons, then the simplicity of this one will be a much needed break. If you thought lessons 1- 4 were easy, then you might as well sleep through this one. (Don’t worry; it will all get harder in time).
Memorize New Vocabulary
So far, we have written a complete sentence. In this lesson we are going to use a couple simple conjunctions to add a little variety.
Earlier, we learned to write: "the book is black". But what if the book is actually black and blue? Well, just as in English, we will add a second adjective by first placing a conjunction in between.
For Example:
To biurko jest brązowe i czarne.

Apply It To Sentence Structure
There are two conjunctions that we can use: "i" and "ale". The term "i" is used for making a comparison, just like saying "and" in English. On the other hand, the term "ale" is used for making a contrasting statement between two things, just like using the term "but" in English.
For example:
Ta książka jest niebieska i biała.
This book is blue and white.
Ten ołówek jest pomarańczowy ale tamten długopis jest niebieski.
This pencil is orange but that pen is blue.
(Notice that the gender of the adjective agrees with the noun)
Here is another example:
Ta lampa jest srebrna ale ten ołówek jest pomarańczowy.
This lamp is silver but this pencil is orange.
Notice that the ending of the color silver has to follow its subject (lamp). Likewise, the ending of the color orange follows the ending of the noun (pencil).

Practice It!
What Goes Where? Fill in the blanks:
1. To biurko jest brązowe ___ tamten ołówek jest srebrny.
2. Ta książka jest biała ___ czarna.
3. Ten długopis jest niebieski ___ tamten długopis jest czerwony.

Try it for yourself by writing out statements using what you have learned this far. Remember that if you make a comparison or contrasting statement about two objects of different gender, then you have to adjust the other parts of your sentence accordingly.
