Lesson 7
Memorize New Vocabulary
"Czy" – used to begin a sentence in which we would ask a yes-no question, could be translated in English as "if".

Apply It To The Sentence Structure
Asking a question in Polish is very simple. All you need to remember is the question participle “czy” [chy]. A question in Polish is created by adding the question word "czy" to the beginning of the sentence.
Examples:
If your statement is:
Ta książka jest czerwona. (This book is red)...
...and you want to ask: Is this book red? All you need to do is to add “czy” at the beginnng of the sentence and a question mark at the end:
Czy ta książka jest czerwona?
ALSO:
To jest lampa. (This is a lamp)
Becomes...
Czy to jest lampa? (Is this a lamp?)
Here you can see that turning a statement into a question is easier in Polish than it is in English. This is because unlike in English, you do not have to restructure the sentence to make a question. A simple "czy" at the beginning and a question mark at the end will do the trick!
Practice It!
Practice this section by turning the statements you have written in pervious exercises into questions.
First, try to translate these sentences from English to Polish and second, convert these statements into questions:
1. The pencil is orange.
2. That book is big and blue.
3. That desk is brown and heavy.
